Course Overview
Dormancy is a normal seasonal rest response in plumeria, not automatic failure. As light, temperature, and day length change, many plumeria slow growth, shed leaves, and use far less water. A plant can look bare and quiet while still being healthy.
This course teaches students to recognize normal dormancy, separate seasonal slowdown from active decline, adjust water and feeding, avoid common mistakes, and know when a dormant-looking plant needs closer attention. The emphasis is practical: observe the whole plant, match care to current activity, and avoid forcing a resting plant to behave like it is in summer growth.
Students will learn how leaf drop, yellowing, lower water demand, cooler conditions, and slower growth fit together. They will also learn what does not fit normal dormancy, such as soft tissue, spreading discoloration, persistent wet media, pests, or cold injury signs.
This is a dormancy education course. It sets clear boundaries around cold damage, pest problems, rot, fertilizer timing, and spring wake-up topics so students do not confuse normal rest with a rescue situation.
Course Outcomes
- Define plumeria dormancy and explain why it happens.
- Recognize common dormancy signals such as slowed growth, yellowing, and leaf drop.
- Adjust watering, feeding, and expectations during low-activity periods.
- Avoid common mistakes such as watering like summer or chasing normal leaf loss.
- Use a monthly dormancy checklist and identify signs that justify escalation.

Key Takeaway
Dormancy is managed with restraint. Reduce water and feeding, monitor firmness and conditions, and avoid chasing normal leaf loss with summer care.
